A yellow prop plane flies through blue sky

April 14, 2023 – Beginning Wednesday, April 19, Midland County Mosquito Control will take to the skies to begin its annual mosquito abatement program. Residents are advised that low-flying yellow crop duster airplanes will conducting repetitive flights over woodland areas throughout Midland County to eliminate mosquitos and related biting flies. The active chemical used for mosquito control is safe for both humans and animals and only the insects listed above are negatively impacted by treatment.

In addition to areas treated by airplanes, Mosquito Control crews will be treating additional woodland pools during April and May. Residents with questions about the program can contact Midland County Mosquito Control at 989-832-8677.

Residents are invited to watch the aircraft take off, land and load from the Midland Community Aviation Discovery Area (MCADA) at Jack Barstow Airport in Midland.

The MCADA is open to the public and offers visitors the ability to learn about all things aviation, including a comfortable viewing area for watching airplane takeoffs and landings and flight preparation activity, a real airplane on display, an aviation-themed educational area, and broadcasted radio communications from pilots available for public listening. There is also a covered pavilion with picnic tables and play areas for younger children.
