Concept 5 Sewer Upsizing Project Begins April 3 on Sugnet Road

Sewer piping

March 24, 2023 – Beginning Monday, April 3, W. Sugnet Road will be closed to through traffic from W. Main Street to Valley Drive as construction begins on a multi-year sewer pipe upsizing project through the Concept 5 Sewer Improvement Plan.

When completed, this project will increase the size of 8,000+ linear feet of sanitary sewer pipe along Perrine Road, Saginaw Road, Main Street, and W. Sugnet Road. This pipe upsizing will coincide with street reconstruction and water main replacement work, with road closures and construction activities similar to any other City road construction project.

As this is an extensive project spanning multiple construction seasons, work will be completed in phases as outlined below:

  • Phase 1:        Sugnet Road from W. Main Steet to Valley Drive. Sugnet Road will be closed to through traffic and local traffic will be maintained for the duration of construction in this phase.
  • Phase 2: W. Main Street from Sugnet Road to Saginaw Road. Main Street will be closed to through traffic and local traffic will be maintained for the duration of construction in this phase.
  • Phase 3: Saginaw Road from W. Main Steet to Perrine Road. Westbound Saginaw Road will be closed and traffic detoured for the duration of construction in this phase. Eastbound traffic will be maintained for the majority of construction in this phase. During sanitary sewer placement in the eastbound lanes, a complete road closure will be in effect for a short duration.
  • Phase 4: Perrine Road from Saginaw Road to Moorland Drive. Perrine Road will be closed to through traffic and local traffic will be maintained for the duration of construction in this phase.

Work on areas of the project after Phase 1 will not begin until substantial completion of the previous phase has occurred. The entire upsizing project is estimated to be completed in June 2024.

Residents are reminded that due to the nature of construction activities, the information provided may change at any time. Should an issue arise that would change this schedule, the City will provide updates online at www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/concept5 and via its Facebook and Twitter channels at @CityofMidlandMI.
