November 17, 2023 – The City of Midland is excited to announce that it has received the gift of one Ford electric transit van and charging station from the Consumers Energy PowerMIFleet program to add to the City’s Dial-A-Ride fleet.
With this addition, 20 percent Dial-A-Ride’s 15-vehicle fleet is now electric. The new wheelchair-accessible transit van joins two other zero-emission electric transit vans purchased earlier this year with federal grant dollars from the Federal Transportation Administration (FTA)’s Low or No Emission (Low-No) Grant Program.
Consumers Energy’s PowerMIFleet (“Power My Fleet”) program provides expertise and financial rebates to businesses considering electric vehicles and sets aside funds to promote equitable access to clean transportation by supporting nonprofits and customer fleets that serve disadvantaged communities.
“Dial-A-Ride provides a critical transportation service to members of the Midland community,” said Director of Public Services Karen Murphy. “Through this generous gift from Consumers Energy, we’re looking forward to continuing that legacy while making strides to reduce our environmental impact.”
Dial-A-Ride Transportation (DART) is the City of Midland’s on-demand, curb-to-curb public transportation system. For more information on Dial-A-Ride, visit www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/dart.
