Middle School Battle of the Books Program Returns to Library

January 26, 2024 – The Grace A. Dow Memorial Library will once again host the Middle School Battle of the Books program specifically for middle school students. Beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, February 5, students in grades 6 - 8 can register online in teams of 1- 2 people and check out books from the official Middle School Battle book list. All books will be on display in the Library’s Teen Room located in the Youth Services Department.

NEW THIS YEAR: The Library will be offering bigger prizes and recognition for participants! The top-performing individuals and teams will receive prizes and commendations, enhancing the overall experience for the students. Prizes include: 

  • 1st place: $250 for their school library to purchase new books
  • 2nd place: $150 for their school library to purchase new books
  • Participation Award: The school with the highest participation rate receives $100 for book purchases
  • Battle of the Books Trophy for Teams: Engraved with the winning team's name and school and residing at the winning team's school until the next Battle of the Books program. 

Additionally, the Library will perform a special check and/or trophy presentation with the winning team in front of the school or their classmates to recognize their hard work and alignment with the school's commitment to academic excellence. 

All teams that wish to participate have until midnight on Monday, March 18 to register. For all program rules and information, please visit Library staff members will also deliver books and information to middle schools within the Library’s service area before Monday, February 5. 

Battle of the Books is a program sponsored by the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library and the Friends of the Library. Events and information are subject to change.
