[ARCHIVED] Fall Leaf Collection Begins Monday, November 2 in Area B

October 28, 2015 – The curbside fall leaf collection program officially kicks off Monday, November 2 in Heavy Refuse Collection Area B and will proceed through areas C, D, and A.

Residents on major streets (see list below) should rake leaves onto the outlawn (between the sidewalk and curb) in front of their homes. Leaves on all other streets in Midland should be raked into the gutter as work crews near your area. Residents are asked to leave at least one foot of gutter space between the leaf pile and the curb to allow a path for water to properly drain from streets.

When the majority of leaves have been collected throughout the city, a final collection round will be announced. Street sweepers will come through neighborhoods once final collection has ended, weather permitting.

Residents may also place leaves in a yard waste bag or bin as an alternative to raking them into the gutter or outlawn area. The City has suspended the regularly required 40-cent per bag sticker for the remainder of the yard waste collection season.

Residents can track the progress of leaf collection crews by calling the Leaf Collection hotline at 989-837-3405, watching the MGTV-188 message board, AT&T U-verse Channel 99, or visiting the City of Midland website (www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/leafupdate).

Major Streets:

• Ashman St. (Circle to Main)• Bay City Rd.
• Buttles St.• Eastman Ave.
• George and Cronkright Streets (between Indian & Ellsworth)• Indian St.
• Isabella St.• Lyon Rd.
• Main St. • Patrick Rd. (Indian to Waldo)
• Rodd St. • Saginaw Rd.

When preparing leaves, keep brush (such as sticks and branches) and refuse out of leaf piles, as these can cause injury to work crews, damage equipment, and slow collection. In addition, to ensure that crews can reach leaves, refrain from parking in the street when collection is in your area.

For questions or more information, contact the Department of Public Services at 989-837-6900.
