November 6, 2015 – The City of Midland is pleased to announce the 10th annual Midland Citizens Academy – a free, 10-week course designed to give citizens an up-close and personal look at how local government functions and helps shape our community.
Through presentations and facility tours, City staff will explain the role and responsibility of City departments and the services they provide to Midland. As an added bonus, one session will be devoted entirely to Midland County government and how the City and County collaborate to enjoy savings and efficiencies.
Applications are now being accepted for the 2016 academy, which will begin on January 13, 2016. Academy sessions will take place each consecutive Wednesday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. from January 13 to March 16. Sessions will be held at various municipal facilities depending on the topic.
The Citizens Academy is limited to 25 participants. Midland residency is not required; however, if there are more applicants than available spaces, first preference will be given to those living inside the city.
Fill out an online form at www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/citizensacademy or pick up a hard copy form at the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library Reference Desk or Midland City Hall’s Information Center. The application deadline is 5 p.m., Friday, December 11.
