[ARCHIVED] Proper Disposal of Christmas Trees

December 18, 2015 – When you’re ready to wrap up the holiday season, dispose of your Christmas tree by placing it at the curb on your weekly refuse collection day.

Tree collection will begin December 28 and end January 8. After January 8, the City of Midland will collect Christmas trees during residents’ once-a-month heavy refuse collection week. The tree should be free of ornaments, garland, and tinsel. Residents should also remove plastic tree bags used to cover the tree as it is removed from the house.

Christmas trees are recycled into wood chips at a City compost site.

For those who would like to keep their tree, prop it up in your backyard where it will serve as shelter for birds and animals during the winter months. Afterwards, the tree can be disposed of on your once-a-month heavy refuse collection day.

For questions or further information on Christmas tree collection, contact the Department of Public Services at 989-837-6900.
