[ARCHIVED] Reserve Picnic Shelters a Year in Advance

January 8, 2016 – Those interested in reserving a picnic shelter at select parks in Midland may do so 364 days in advance of their event.

The annual Opening Day of Shelter Reservations that used to be scheduled on the second Mon-day in January at the Midland Civic Arena will no longer take place. Reservations are open to everyone online at www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/shelters or through the Parks and Recreation Of-fice by calling 989-837-6930 or in person at 4811 N. Saginaw Rd.

A reminder that reservation fees are non-refundable. They are used to help fund park maintenance and equipment. Also, from April 15 – June 30, all daytime reservations that end before 3 p.m. Monday – Friday are exempt from fees.

There are three shelters and five picnic areas in Emerson Park; three shelters and one picnic area in Plymouth Park; and one shelter each in Chippewassee Park, Barstow Woods Park, and Stratford Woods Park. Each shelter (except for Emerson Park D, which has no electricity) and picnic area has an electrical outlet and are serviced by nearby outdoor grills.

The Chalet is available for rent from April 15 – November 15 and intermittently in the winter months. The Chalet interior and seating has been recently updated and new seating includes four 6-foot oak tables, four overlook bar areas, and two high top tables that are standing room only. Capacity of the Chalet is 49 people. There is a fire pit and one double jumbo grill at the north end of the building.

For additional information, contact the City of Midland Parks and Recreation Department, Mon-day – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., at 989-837-6930 or by email at recreation@midland-mi.org.
