[ARCHIVED] City's "Three Free" Program Begins Monday, April 14

April 7, 2014 – To coincide with the start of the spring yard waste collection season, the City of Midland’s popular Three Free program begins Monday, April 14. During these three weeks – set for April 14 to May 2 – residents may dispose of yard waste in kraft paper compost bags or yard waste bins without the City’s collection stickers.

Yard waste sticker renewal notices have been mailed to City residents with blue yard waste bins. If you have not received your renewal notice, call the Department of Public Services at 989-837-6900. Residents are encouraged to apply their sticker to their blue yard waste bin as soon as they receive it.

Effective Monday, May 5, yard waste bins and all compost bags will require stickers.

As a reminder, residents should not rake their yard waste into the street for collection. Street leaf collection service is only provided in the fall.

Yard waste is collected curbside, on the same day as residential refuse, in kraft paper compost bags and/or 95-gallon, blue yard waste bins purchased from the City of Midland. Yard waste includes grass clippings, leaves, garden waste, and small twigs and branches.

Yard waste should not be set out earlier than 6 p.m. on the day before collection and no later than 7:30 a.m. on collection day.

For more information, contact the Department of Public Services at 989-837-6900.
