Midland City Manager Named Outstanding Community Administrator by Michigan Association of Planning

Jon Lynch, Midland City Manager

November 4, 2016 – Midland City Manager Jon Lynch received the Michigan Association of Planning (MAP) 2016 Outstanding Community Administrator Award during the organization’s Planning Michigan Annual Conference October 26 – 28 in Kalamazoo.

The Outstanding Community Administrator Award honors a community administrator who has made significant, positive contributions to comprehensive community planning in Michigan and whose career has advanced planning through their efforts and results.

Lynch has been a long-time planning advocate and has overseen a variety of policy, economic, and quality of place initiatives in Midland. He also serves as an adjunct instructor in the public administration program at Central Michigan University and mentors students in the Michigan State University College of Social Science.

“Jon is a tireless advocate for our community, encouraging careful planning and strategic approaches to the many issues we face now and those we will need to face in our future,” says Midland Mayor Maureen Donker. “In my opinion, Jon embodies everything that this award represents: respectful community engagement, thoughtful planning, and collaborative leadership and execution.”

Lynch has served as Midland’s City Manager since 2006. Previously, he worked as Planning Director and Assistant City Manager for the City of Midland and as Assistant City Manager of Big Rapids, Michigan. Lynch holds professional qualifications as an International City/County Management Association Credentialed Manager and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.
