December 9, 2016 – The City of Midland received statewide recognition for its beautification efforts at the 2016 Keep Michigan Beautiful, Inc. (KMB) Awards Ceremony in Kalamazoo.
KMB awarded Midland with the President’s Award on Friday, October 21. Midland was one of eight communities that received the award, which was bestowed for the City’s efforts and dedication in beautifying the community.
The President’s Plaque is the highest honor that is given by Keep Michigan Beautiful. Other President’s Plaque winners included the Big Rapids Garden Club (Big Rapids), CMU Fabiano Botanical Garden (Mt. Pleasant), Chrysler Beach Stormwater Improvement Project (Marysville), Evergreen Road Improvement Project (Southfield), Scott Sunken Garden (Lansing), Thayer’s Corner Nature Center (Northville), and the Westwood Garden Club (Kalamazoo).
A panel of judges from the KMB Board of Directors meet to read and evaluate each entry. Entries are judged and scored on a variety of criteria including the lasting impact of the program, the level of community-wide participation and the program’s mission.
The Keep Michigan Beautiful program promotes beautification and restoration projects and encourages enhancement of environmental quality across the state.
