Beat the winter blues and join us at City Forest for our first ever MidWinter Chill! Compete in Midland’s first annual cardboard sled race down City Forest's sledding hill, sing songs by the fire, eat gooey s'mores and watch a professional ice carver in action! Stay and toboggan with us for a midwinter glow after the festivities end – free glow sticks with every toboggan rental!

CARDBOARD SLED RACES 3:00 p.m.

Do you have what it takes to be KING OF THE HILL? Get your crew and your cardboard together to find out in this first-ever Cardboard Sled Racing event! Awards will be given for the following categories:

  • King of the Hill – Fastest Sled in Each Class:  
    • Class 1 - All Rider(s) Age 12 and under   
    • Class 2 - One Adult Rider with All other Rider(s) 12 and under   
    • Class 3 – All Rider(s) age 13 and older *
  • Best Dressed – Best looking sled, this includes the small details.
  • School Spirit – Who was the most spirited team?  Who had their sled game on point? Decorations don’t matter!

The registration form can be found here. Preregister by contacting Parks and Recreation by Thursday, January 24 to get in on the fun!

A few points about the cardboard sled races

  • Bring your sled, ready to race!
  • Sled construction shall consist of cardboard, glue and duct tape, only! Visit our friends at the Midland Area Recyclers for your cardboard needs.
  • All sled racers are required to wear helmets (bring your own).
  • Up to 6 people can ride in the sled at once.

ICE CARVING DEMONSTRATION 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Join us at we carve up some fun! Some icy fun, that is! We have brought on a professional carver who will make something out of nothing - can you guess what it will be?

S'MORES AND SONGS BY THE FIRE 6:00-7:00 P.M.

Join us and our good friend, Steve Lampi, as we sing some songs by the campfire. We will provide s'more to the first 200 participants that stop by!
